The monument in Jackson Park

March 26, 2002

This monument in Jackson Park was part of a fountain erected in 1913 to honor Judge Lacy by his three sons. It depicts Potosa, the wife of Julien Dubuque. This area, at what is now Main Street and West Fifteenth Street, was Dubuque's first cemetery in 1833. It has been used as a park since at least the 1870's. For an old postcard view of this park see the Web page at http://www.dubuquepostcards.com/index.php?category=34.
